The Bistrot – Seminyak with Style – Style Compass Media

I had always had my eye on visiting The Bistrot, for dinner. The curb appeal alone had gotten my attention, while passing by. One calm Bali evening, I went with Jenny Sparke, designer of Karmarama women’s clothing. We actually got there before 8pm, I know “grandma time”. She was worried no one would show up, and we’d be the only ones’ there, her fear, not mine. I was so taken by the details of the decor. I noticed Yassine had walked in while I was telling naughty joke.
I motioned for him to come over to our table, he obliged us. I then reminded him that we had met at a dinner party around the holidays, hosted by another chef friend. I told him I was trying The Bistrot for the first time, and if the food was bad, I was going tell on him to our mutual chef friend. His eyebrows went up, and he replied, “you are putting me under pressure“. I just said, please make sure the food is made with love. He complied, it was wonderful! I ordered the Classic Rosemary Chicken, with potatoes, and side salad. The food was properly prepared, and lightly seasoned. I like how food is seasoned in Asia, usually lightly flavored, with dipping sauces, in order to customize according to one’s own preference. The portions, are double, you can actually just order one meal, and it be would enough for 2 people. After dinner we went upstairs to the bar area, which is also considered the “smoking area“, thankfully no one was smoking then. Sitting in the wingback chairs, reminded me of how I felt when I would visit my father’s den, elegant, refined, and oh so French. This is The Bistrot, with style. Sadly I was too full to try the desert menu, however it does give me an excuse to return…
